Our friend had to make a gamble decision.
To take or not to take? That is the question.
To take the killing drug to kill the cancer cells and at the same time killing the normal cells and hence to kill the already very weak life, or to let go of the cancer cells that have been killing the body gradually and let life passing away?
It is hard choice. Which way is a better attempt to save life? Which is a better way to face life itself when both involve killing, passive or active? One is dying while one choice might hasten it while the other choice might respect the process of life which we call dying.
We all are risking our lives one way or the other. We too have to make decisions in a subtle way as to redeem our lives before the actual end of life, whether to make our lives worth more or not. We are risking lives, whether what we do is actually wasting our lives or extending it, in either a physical way or in a moral/spiritual manner.
Everyday, we make decisions, whether consciously or not. We put our lives in a way to capture the best possible outcome and in return, we lose the day and step one step closer to its end. The result of our daily choice will tell us if we have made the right decision.
One thing is clear, we do not know when our end will arrive. Here, quality is more important than quantity, as always is. Jesus once said, if a grain is not to die, there will not be many grains. But if the grain were to die, it bears many grains. Dying can produce lives! How paradoxical!
He also mentioned, if one wants to save his life, he will lose it. But those who loses his life because of the Kingdom of heaven, he will get life. The Kingdom of God becomes the generator of life and becomes the guarantor of life. How interesting!
